Smart money guide

Copying a wallet starts with choosing it.

Copy trading is only as good as the wallets you copy. A good wallet to copy isn't one that did 100x once, it's one that wins consistently, with a style you can follow. Here's how to find and test them.

Where to look

  • Early buyers of coins that worked: on an explorer (Solscan) or a terminal, check who got in early on coins that did 5x or 10x.
  • Smart money tools: GMGN and others rank wallets by results. See Scope and GMGN.
  • Your own observation: wallets you keep seeing among the first buyers.

What to check

CriterionWhat you want
Number of tradesEnough that the result isn't luck (dozens, not three).
ConsistencyGains spread out, not one huge hit.
Position sizeCompatible with yours: copying a wallet that buys 50 SOL moves the price before you.
Holding timeSeconds or hours? Your exit must match the pace.
Recent activityA wallet that won six months ago may have changed style.

The traps

  • Bait wallets: some wallets show great results to attract copiers, then sell onto them.
  • Over-copied wallets: if hundreds of bots copy the same wallet, you all get in at the same, too-high price.
  • Hidden gains: a wallet may win thanks to sells made somewhere you don't see.

Test before you stake

  1. Small amountPut the wallet in a Scope group with the minimum amount.
  2. Tight exitsStop loss and sell after X blocks, to measure the wallet without exposure.
  3. One to two weeksCheck your per-position history: what you make copying it.
  4. Keep or cutRaise the amount on those that work, drop the rest.

FAQ

How many wallets should I copy?

Several, grouped by style. Scope's free plan allows 50 followed wallets and 20 groups.

Should I copy the wallet's sells?

Your exit should match your plan. Many prefer fixed rules (take profit, stop loss, sell after X blocks) over depending on when someone else sells.

Who are the best crypto traders to copy?

Public rankings change constantly and the most visible wallets are also the most copied. The best wallets for you are the ones you've tested yourself.
